Features

Automatic K# and KAPPA Number Testing
The Systematix Series SX 4400 Automatic Pulp Analyzers quickly and reliably determine pulp sample lignin content from the cooking or bleaching process. Models available provide KAPPA Number, Permanganate (K#) tests, or both in one instrument.

Programming and Calibration
The system comes pre-programmed and pre-calibrated for standard tests with temperature compensation. Endpoints are established according to individual mill specifications. Precision is assured by use of capillary type pulse-counting pumps under microprocessor control.

Simplicity
The operator prepares the dried and weighed sample in a measured water solution, places the beaker in the test cavity, selects the desired tests, and presses the START button. All remaining test operations are automatically performed under precise software control of the SX 4400 high-speed microprocessor.

Documentation
The analyzer's memory will store up to 99 hours of data, which can be printed out or transmitted to a host computer via RS-232 communications port.

Functional Description

At power-up, the Series SX 4400 Analyzers perform an extensive self test and display the operational status on a 160-character liquid crystal display (LCD). A Blank Test is then performed to verify KMnO4 to Thio strength ratio. This result is stored in memory, and becomes a part of test result calculations.

After a prepared sample is placed in the test beaker, the SX 4400 automatically applies and stirs chemicals at a controlled rate. A temperature probe is automatically inserted into the sample and the temperature value is displayed on the LCD. Test results are displayed and held upon completion of the test.

Iodometric endpoints are determined by using a photometric sensor and performing a proprietary computer analysis of the sensor output. During the test, system software corrects for test-dependent variables such as Blank Number, sample weight, KMnO4 consumption, and temperature.

Maintenance and calibration are readily accomplished by keyboard entry using weight measuring techniques. Provision has been made for on-site custom program calibration ensuring maximum compatibility with the mill process.
